AIM Photonics members NLM Photonics and Spark Photonics Partner to Advance Organic Hybrid Solutions
"Spark Photonics brings deep photonic integrated circuit (PIC) design expertise and a solid understanding of the unique process requirements of SOH technology," said Brad Booth, CEO, NLM Photonics. "Their contributions have been essential to our progress on both the Tower and AIM platforms.
As demand grows for high-performance modulation in silicon photonics, integrating advanced materials into scalable foundry processes is a key step toward enabling next-generation applications.
This article highlights a design partnership between AIM Photonics members NLM Photonics and Spark Photonics, demonstrated through a multi-project wafer run on Tower Semiconductor’s PH18M silicon photonics platform. With design and layout support from Spark Photonics and integration of NLM’s silicon organic hybrid (SOH) materials, the effort confirms compatibility with Tower’s silicon photonics foundry process and helps lay the foundation for a process design kit to support broader adoption of the technology.
The partnership also includes work on AIM Photonics’ 300 mm platform under a U.S. Air Force AFWERX STTR Phase II contract, supporting broader access to the technology and advancing it toward scalable manufacturing for government and commercial innovations in high-speed datacom, RF photonics, sensing, and other demanding applications.
