AIM Photonics Sensor Technology Demonstrated at Rio Robotico

Participants in the Rio Robotico event engaged in integration tests on both unmanned ground vehicle platforms and unmanned aircraft system platforms and with many different technologies, ranging in various lifecycle stages from early prototypes to ready to field.

Moving emerging sensing technologies from development toward deployment requires testing how they perform under conditions that reflect their intended use. At Rio Robotico, an annual integrated engineering and test event, government, industry and academic partners came together to evaluate technologies for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) detection on unmanned systems.

A recent U.S. Army article highlights how the event enables developers to integrate and test sensing technologies on unmanned ground and aircraft platforms while gathering feedback from operators. The resulting data can help accelerate the fielding of autonomous, modular sensor payloads and identify opportunities to address capability gaps.

Some of the technologies demonstrated during the event included sensor technology developed at AIM Photonics using its photonic integrated circuit platform optimized for sensing applications. Its inclusion at Rio Robotico demonstrates how integrated photonics can move from development into operationally relevant testing as technologies progress toward future applications.
